Donovan is an eight and a half-year-old male boxer. He has to "last" another two years, which is the amount of time it will take to train his replacement. Everybody says Donovan will go on forever, but that's just wishful thinking. I would like for Donovan's final years to be peaceful and full of good things. Especially the treats he loves. Since boxers on average only live eight to ten years, Donovan's time could be up any time now. Please help me to make this time of his life special.
He keeps me sane. When the world gets too close, he gets in between it and me. He does this by putting the front half of his body in my lap and putting his big, beautiful head against my chest. Suddenly, the world is bearable again.
He was trained to pick things up for me. One time I dropped my hat in Home Depot. Donovan picked it up and followed me with it clear through the store. I wish I'd had a whole pocketful of treats for him that day.
Another time we decided to see if he could duplicate a feat another legendary service dog had accomplished. We put a credit card on the floor, and told him to pick it up. It took him a while to figure it out, but he did it!
